"Four From Wilanow"
Warsaw, Poland
- 1976
|
"The Speaker," 1974. 20" x 30" engraving
"Invasion," 1975, Painting based on engraved base. The following color slides and reproductions are excellent examples of Sawka works that fuse printing and painting techniques. He was awarded the Oscar de la Peinture at the International Painting Festival, Cagnes-sur-Mer, France in 1975 for these works. The works have some very political themes.
"Avanti," 1976. Painting based on engravings
"The New Perspective," 1976. Painted engravings forming a large panel.
"My Great Theater," 1972. Big panel formed from 84 engravings.
Artistically, this show was crucial to an entire generation of artists. Its political impact was such that Sawka was exiled. These photos, taken from the magazine Projekt, show the wild atmosphere of this installation of four individual exhibitions, entitled Four from Wilanow. The Four were: - J.J. Aleksiun - J. Czerniawski - J. Sawka - E. Stankiewicz

"The Photographer," 1974. Etching
"We Have Everything," 1976. Handcolored engraving
"My Portrait," 1974. Handcolored engraving
